Eglinton Crosstown Community Benefits Program

Eglinton Crosstown Apprenticeship Plan

The Project Agreement between Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario with Crosslinx Transit Solution requires among other things, the development and implementation of Apprenticeship Plan which includes specific objectives for apprenticeship opportunities for the Project on a trade-by-trade basis, apprenticeship opportunities for each trade required on the Project and a program to ensure the required supply of apprentices to meet CTS’s Apprenticeship Plan objectives and requirements.

See link to the Apprenticeship Plan and Construction Schedule. In addition, the Declaration, signed in December 2016, sets out an aspiration to achieving a goal of employing apprentices or journeypersons from historically disadvantaged communities and equity seeking groups to perform 10% of all trade or craft working hours, on a trade by trade basis, required to construct the Project. See link to Declaration here.

Eglinton Crosstown LRT Community Benefits Liaison Plan

The Project Agreement requires CTS to produce a Community Benefits and Liaison Plan. Crosslinx submitted the plan to Metrolinx in January 2016, and although it was not officially approved until the fall, implementation is well underway. This report is a summary of the plan as well as the progress and results CTS has achieved to date.

The objective of the Community Benefits and Liaison Plan is to maximize training, employment and procurement opportunities for Eglinton-area residents and businesses. Crosslinx is meeting these objectives by:

  • Recruiting for Crosslinx employment opportunities
  • Providing training and workforce development opportunities to youth and others facing barriers to employment
  • Procuring goods and services from local businesses and social enterprises whenever possible
  • Undertaking community engagement
