Finch LRT

TCBN has been anticipating the close of the RFP and selection of the winning bidder for the Finch LRT. Projected to cost $1.2 billion dollars, the Finch West Light Rail Transit (LRT) project is part of the Ontario Government's commitment to expand transit in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. The LRT will run along Finch Avenue West in Toronto and be fully integrated with the city's existing transit system. WHAT WE ARE ASKING:

  • Firm targets within the Project Agreement
  • Apprenticeships and professional, administrative and technical jobs for historically-disadvantaged communities and equity seeking groups
  • Social procurement for social enterprise, diverse suppliers and local businesses
  • A community hub and centre for the art

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The Finch LRT Project Agreement builds on the existing Community Benefits Framework TCBN signed with Metrolinx in 2014. In addition to demands for jobs and social procurement opportunities, TCBN is supporting the community's demands for a community hub and centre for the arts one block west of the corner of Jane and Finch near the Finch LRT Maintenance and Storage Facility. Community consultations and project development of the hub is being led by the resident led group, Community Action Planning Group (CAPG). CAPG was invited to present to the bidders and TCBN and CAPG have maintained an open dialog with Metrolinx and the City of Toronto regarding the land.
