In March, Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow released the Mayor's Economic Action Plan in Response to United States Tariffs. The TCBN welcomes these recommendations that aim to protect Toronto's economy and workers, preserve jobs and support inclusive economic growth.
We are particularly happy to see immediate actions that leverage City purchasing and procurement to prioritize Canadian business and measures to enhance the City's Social Procurement Policy, an existing strategy which is aimed at increasing the participation of Black, Indigenous, diverse suppliers and social enterprises.
The TCBN continues to call on all levels of government, public institutions and organizations to support Community Benefits Agreements and Social Procurement as inclusive local economic development strategies that keep our investment dollars circulating in our communities and build community wealth.
