Join the Toronto Community Benefits Network on Tuesday May 21st at 1pm for our Downsview General Meeting and launch of our Community Benefits Vision Report. Over the last two years, the TCBN has led an extensive engagement process through consultations with over 1,500 local community members, stakeholders and member organizations.
Engagement activities have included community outreach, petitions, hosting and participating in community events and a neighbourhood tour in collaboration with Northcrest Development, a major landowner with plans to redevelop the vacated Downsview Airport and Bombardier facility which has been home to good paying jobs in the community for years.
The report outlines a brief history of the Downsview area, TCBNs community engagement process and key community benefits themes including:
- Good jobs and inclusive local economies
- Social procurement and business development
- Neighbourhood improvements including affordable housing
- Environmental sustainability that ensures sustainable development and environmental protections
- Accountability and transparency mechanisms through an agreement for community benefits for each phase of development at Downsview. Such agreements must include measurable targets and a commitment to ongoing community oversight, monitoring, tracking and public reporting
Register and join us to learn more on our community benefits vision as well as an overview of the City of Toronto's Update Downsview Secondary Plan and Downsview Community Development Plan which is scheduled on the Toronto City Council agenda on May 22-23rd
