On May 7th, TCBN hosted an online workshop in collaboration with ACORN Canada centered around affordable housing as it pertains to the Downsview area. Participants discussed topics such as deeply affordable housing, ownership opportunities, public vs private land, available housing models and more.
On May 21st, TCBN hosted a general meeting in which we presented on our community benefits vision for Downsview and unveiled some excerpts from our forthcoming vision report. In attendance were City of Toronto staff members who presented on the Update Downsview Secondary Plan, Downsview Community Development Plan and Community Benefits Plan for private sector developments as well as a representative from Northcrest Developments who presented on their overall vision for the Downsview Lands project.

On May 22nd, the Update Downsview study was unanimously approved by Toronto City Council. This study includes: the Downsview Secondary Plan, Community Development Plan, Urban Design Guidelines, Zoning By-law for Meanwhile Uses, and Master Environmental Servicing Plan. NOTE: “meanwhile uses” are generally non-residential land uses that are permitted to occupy the site prior to development of a particular district, phase or site by the policies in the recommended Downsview Secondary Plan.
