Julian Gross Visit: Strengthening TCBN's Mission

During our 10th-anniversary celebration, we were honored to host Julian Gross, who provided invaluable insights on community benefits agreements in land use and infrastructure. Julian is a lawyer and principal expert on community benefits in land use development and public infrastructure who has negotiated dozens of community benefits agreements, project labour agreements and community workforce agreements in cities across North America.

Moss Park Highlights

TCBN proudly participated in the Moss Park Summer Festival, celebrating with the community and launching our Empower Moss Park campaign with engaging opportunities for everyone.

 

 

TCBN visits Hamilton for Trainwreck Documentary Viewing

On August 5th, 2024 the TCBN joined the Trainwreck documentary viewing at the Playhouse Cinemas in Hamilton. The documentary focuses on the struggles of tenants displaced from homes along Hamilton’s LRT corridor and squeezed out by gentrification in the run-up to the Metrolinx megaproject and includes voices from resident leaders in communities impacted by the Eglinton Crosstown LRT and Finch West LRT in Toronto.

 

 

BABF Fairview Area Community Walk

On August 10th, BABF led a Fairview area community walk with community members, community groups, local organizations and faith groups. The community walk included learning more about the history of the Fairview area, new development proposals including the proposed Cadiilac Fairview Fairview Mall redevelopment and Sheppard Subway Extension.

Updates on FIFA 2026

In July, City Council approved the FIFA World Cup 2026 Host City Procurement Plan of which includes a committment for at least 50% of all procurements to include supply chain diversity requirements and a target of $20 million in contracts will be allocated to Black, Indigenous and diverse suppliers. 

 

 

ULI Toronto Technical Assistance Panel Report

In July, the Urban Land Institute Toronto Technical Assistance Panel released its report, Preserving Black Communities Apartment Affordability Around Transit in Toronto.

Grand Central Mimico Community Townhall

The South Etobicoke Community Land Trust, Mimico Residents Assocation, and Community Benefits Agreements South Etobicoke will be hosting a community town hall to discuss the twice-suspended development at the Mimico GO Station, and options for helping move the project forward in a community-oriented direction.
